Iran: Ready for Global Jihad?

Here are some population pyramids for Iran I’ve just found here:

You don’t go to war when your birthrate has collapsed. Families with five sons might not grumble too much when one of them gets his head shot off in a war with Saddam Hussein c.1984. Families with one son will bribe or riot when the politicians start talking holy war.

Behind their bluster, or behind the wall of neocon propaganda, the Iranians are eager for a deal. It’s the same with the Chinese. It’s the same with the Russians.

About the only militarily important countries in the world not facing a demographic crisis are – er – Britain and the united States. Which countries have been most often to war in recent years?

  1. “About the only militarily important countries in the world not facing a demographic crisis are – er – Britain and the united States” This might be true mathematically, but in Britain the numbers are made up by the immigrant population, predominantly the Muslim immigrant population. The indigenous birth rate is I think something like 1.6 or 1.7, so on current trends Britain will be a Muslim country within a fairly short time. The United States has a similar situation with the Hispanics, who are breeding at a much faster rate than the ‘white’ Americans.

Oh, they ARE facing a demographic crisis. But it’s not one that respectable people worry about. “We’re all the same under the skin”, after all.

  3. What is forgotten in the main posting is that the armed forces of both the uSA and Britain are all-volunteer (at least I _think_ the USA is – it wasn’t during the Vietnam business but that was long ago.) Also, to my knowledge the following countries have all-volunteer forces: France, Poland, Czech Republic, Australia, New Zealand, and there may be others: I suspect the benelux nations and scandinavia of being in the same group.

The numbers of forces personnel in places like Iran would be made up to vast levels, by comparison with us, whether a few hundred thousand famillies rioted or not.

  4. The fertility rate of Iran is not relevant.

If this was post about the theology of Iranian leadership it might be of interest. But it is not.

To Sean Gabb the “hastener” theology of both the President of Iran and the Supreme Leader is not a problem. Britain and the United States are the problem.

    Not a good post.
