TV licensing: what does it mean?

David Davis

Some bad stuff here. If you’re thinking of moving to Britain, then don’t. We stay here because we are either too poor to emigrate, or else we are damned if we want to be ejected by scumbags who hate us and our culture and civilisation: you don’t have to suffer the crap if you don’t need to.

Here’s the sequel. h’t Samizdata.

But you have to wonder. What was it in our makeup as a nation and culture, that allowed us to so, so, so go out-to-lunch, and be just so really, well, lazy? How did we allow this rentacrowd of evil, deliberating, GramscoFabiaNazi mountebanks, who have not got our interests at heart, no not at-all-at-all-at-all, ot get control of the mega-triodes at the BBC’s Txs?

I think we simply did just go out to lunch. But it was caused by apathy. Apathy and lack of enlightenment. We have to remember though, that we’re still the same as we always were, underneath.

All of the cultural wealth is still here. The United Kingdom has much in the way of prospect for the future, even if that isn’t always apparent now. I know it is generally held that the dissolution of the British Empire was the downturning point for us, but we have to remember what gave us such an imperial imperative in the first place.

Moreover, the imperative, the requirement, no longer exists. This financial crisis have put a dampener on the mood I suppose, but afterward, if we’re objective, we might realise that we’ve never had it so good.

Because… because… if a rich man, if a Lord, spends his wealth upon himself in selfish excess, he will do you no harm, for he cares only for himself. But if he is inspired to do good works, then beware; he will snatch the ale from your hand, and the pipe from your mouth; he will snatch the meat from your plate and replace it with a turnip; he will snatch the harlot from your lap and beat you to the ground until you pray; and if he has no God he will invent a new one for you to abase yourself before. And if you protest, or attempt to evade his munificent kindness, he will set his men upon you, and pursue you to the ends of the Earth, and throw you in a jail, to ensure that you do not go without, for it pains his heart beyond bearing that some may not benefit from salvation.

Victorian values, David. You will be saved whether you like it or not. We invented them. It’s only fitting that we should suffer the worst persecution. It was all about moral hegemony, long before Gramsci gave it a theoretical gloss. The purpose of the BBC is to save your soul, and if you don’t want to be saved, you’re fucking asking for it. That’s how it’s worked here since the damned methodists, tractarians, quakers, &c &c killed liberalism. Bastards.

Time to award hessian bags to all at the BBC and close the doors forever. No more license fees and less than objective reporting. ABOLISH it!

  6. Do you know that it’s illegal to drive a car without road tax?
Do you know that it’s illegal to drive a car without insurance?
Do you know that it’s illegal to murder people?
Do you know that it’s illegal to assault people?
Do you know that you need a driving license before you can legally drive a car?

The answer will be yes to all of those..

Do you know that it’s illegal to watch TV programs as they are broadcast, be it on a computer or on a TV without a TV license?

I dare say you know that too. So why of why oh why do the DVLA and the Police not write to me on a weekly basis threatening me with jail if I don’t get road tax or car insurance or to just remind me that it’s illegal to murder people?

What? They expect me to know. So what makes the TV license people so fecking different? Why do they have the right to write to me on a weekly basis to tell me to get a license?

I’ll not be getting one. Full stop. They can go jump :)
