But weren’t we told that “Ozone is good” and is needed to “save the world”?

David Davis

Timesonline via The Englishman has a note on catastrophically rising ozone levels and their possible effect on crops….

…but I thought we were destroying the ozone layer, and that moreover we weren’t supposed to farm any more as it destroys the “envrionment”? He suspects another manufactured scare, and so do I.

  1. We were told ozone in the ozone layer is good since it protects us from UV.

I remember back then people making a distinction between atmospheric ozone and ground level ozone, the latter being bad. (there was even a public participation science survey to measure ozone at ground level using two different types of tobacco plant – unfortunately the ozone sensitive one was adored by slugs and quickly succumbed – the other survived and for a while we had tobacco leaves hanging around the house drying…)

You may like to view the US Environmental Protection Agency website for Ozone Layer Depletion.

Here you’ll find information about the science of ozone depletion, EPA’s regulatory approach to protecting the ozone layer, alternatives to ozone-depleting substances, and sun safety.
