What do you think of this?
The safety-Nazis have really excelled themselves in (I, er, can’t gripple with a sufficiently pejorative superlative here) (…………….. any suggestions? …………….) seriously bad taste. They have no shame, not even about their ability to ignore and belittle the death-sufferings of other human beings, in their pursuit of their dark and diabolic utopia which they have in store for all of us.
(The copy says: “terrorism-related deaths since 2001, 21,337. Tobacco-related deaths since 2001, 30,000,000 )
I got it from Mark Steyn’s Corner on NRO. Here’s his take:
Ashes to ashes [Mark Steyn]
ASH (Action on Smoking and Health) has a new anti-smoking ad.
The good news for ASH types is that, when a plane slices through your office building and the heat is so intense you’d rather jump from the window and plummet to your death, you don’t even have time for a last cigarette. Maybe they could get that in the next poster.
IF smoking is so bad for people, and IF the Nazis think we are their herd-animals, for directing and bullying, then why not make smoking, the production and possession of tobacco materials, and the trading of them, all illegal?
But they won’t, will they.

This is absolutely disgusting, if you ever believed these people possessed human emotions or feelings, then you wont anymore.
Even if the figures were true, which we know there not, there is no justification to use the heartbreak of those hundreds of grieving families for this type of depraved emotional blackmail.

Entirely agree, Pete. item: if anyone wants to syndicate this further, it was found by mark Steyn on a blog called “copyrant” or “copyranter”, or some suchlike.

I find it rather amusing that a libertarian claims something shouldn’t be done because it is offensive or in bad taste. Is there some right not to be offended that I have missed?

I didn’t say it should’nt be done. I have no more right to stop the ASH Nazis that you do. It merely saddens me that they exist at all.
Advertising people in this century are generally recruited from the Left (it was starting to get that way in my day; boozy lunches till 4.10pm started to go out of favour in the 70s and 80s) and it is sad that they know only to depict the dying torments of people and countries that do not feel as positive towards them as Castro does.
